Alf Gifford joined the Rotary Club of Melbourne in 1945. He was Chairman of the Rotary Park Committee from 1971 to 1978 and on 28 June 1978 he was invited by President Alan Watkin to dedicate a tree in the park in recognition of his continuous interest in and care of the Park over many years.
